Corrections & Clarifications

Following the National Party’s announcement of its proposed Shadow Cabinet (Conceptual), several points require clarification after what the party describes as widespread misunderstanding and others describe as basic reading mis-comprehension.

Correction:
The Nationals do not have a Shadow Cabinet in the traditional sense.
Clarification:
They have a shadow-adjacent leadership concept which performs many of the same functions, excluding legality, authority, and relevance.

Correction:
The Nationals are not technically the Official Opposition.
Clarification:
They are opposed to many things, frequently and mostly.

Correction:
Matt Canavan is not formally responsible for accelerating climate change.
Clarification:
He is merely opposed to doing anything to slow it down.

Correction:
The title “Sub-Shadow Minister for Climate Change Acceleration” should not be interpreted as an admission of intent.
Clarification:
It is more of an outcome.

Correction:
Bridget McKenzie did not say guns are “completely harmless in all circumstances.”
Clarification:
She said they are less dangerous than wind turbines, cyclists, inner-city voters, and conversations about gun control.

Correction:
Kevin Hogan’s proposed role as Sub-Shadow Minister for Looking Extremely Glum is not an official appointment.
Clarification:
It is a reflection of lived experience.

Correction:
Reports suggesting the Shadow Cabinet exists primarily for Sky News After Dark are inaccurate.
Clarification:
Some portfolios must be designed with television lighting in mind.

Correction:
The Nationals deny the Shadow Cabinet is symbolic.
Clarification:
It is aspirational.

Correction:
Claims this represents a tantrum following the Coalition split are rejected.
Clarification:
It is a principled sulk.

The National Party stresses that it remains serious about governing Australia at some point in the future, should circumstances change dramatically and everyone else leave the room.
